Phase 1

Activities and sessions include:

  • Devotional period
  • Topical lectureIMG-20140913-WA004
  • Group discussion
  • Interactive games ( designed by a physiotherapist to develop recovery skills)
  • Assisting with daily chores i.e. cleaning of kitchen area after lunch etc.
  • After lunch (cooked meal provided)
  • Gender-specific groups
  • Learning to play chess (to exercise the brain but also strategic in learning lessons regarding actions/consequences behaviour in recovery)
  • Parenting workshops
  • Movie times (with a spiritual and educational focus)

In this programme, the clients also learn to have “good clean fun”, by playing volleyball on the beach, arts and craft hobbies and also learning the benefits of teamwork.

During phase 1 &2 clients are taught relaxation techniques to de-stress without the use of chemical substances.

Phase 2

IMG-20140913-WA010This is the treatment phase of the programme. It is a structured 6-week process which is convened every 7 weeks.

Topics include denial, self-worth, addiction, co-dependency, relapse prevention etc. Most lectures include a home assignment, to be completed and handed in the following day.

At the commencement of phase 2 clients are tasked with writing their life story which is handed in at the commencement of week 6 in phase 2. The life story becomes the basis of individual counselling with a therapist

 

 

 

The process of phase 2, in brief, is as follows:

  • Week 1&2 – Looking back (at past errors and poor decisions)
  • Week 3&4 – Looking within (understanding who we are)
  • Week 5&6 – Looking forward (to the new life in recovery)

Additional lectures include:

  • Health (HIV & Aids, TB and with options for testing)
  • Way to Work workshop is a preparation for finding employment after the treatment programme and includes interviewing skills (finding a job) employment and the workplace (keeping a job)
  • Heartlines DVD series followed by a group discussion focused on changing values and behaviour.
  • Arts & Crafts hobbies and recreation
  • Motivational Talks
  • Family Day is a good opportunity for people who are supporting the client to meet the staff but more so to get a better understanding of addiction and addressing concerns and things to consider in moving forward in recovery.
  • One on one counselling sessions with a social worker or counsellor.

Phase 3

Aftercare counselling sessions are arranged with clients at the commencement of phase 3 thereafter it is the client’s responsibility to arrange further aftercare counselling sessions with staff. Living Grace Recovery Programme staff will always welcome clients who seek advice and counselling.

We also assist clients with letters of reference where required and support them in this phase with seeking employment, community and family reunification where possible.
